I think the largest thing that worked for us is what is sometimes called "timed" potty training. This is the technique that is recommended in the Reach Out & Teach book: Potty Train in Three Days
If you are looking for a lovely potty chair, our favourite is the Kid Bjorn Toilet Trainer.
Timed training means that you keep a chart of your kid's wet & dirty diapers & try to get a sense of when they usually needs a alter. Hopefully you'll start to see a pattern, like that they usually pees right after breakfast for example. One time you have a pattern established (or close to anyway) then you can start putting him on the potty at those times (ie, after breakfast they goes straight to the potty & you wait there with him until they pees). The idea is that he'll finally figure out that the potty is where he is supposed to do his business, not the diaper - & naturally in the event you give him tons of praise every time they makes use of the potty then he'll need to continue doing it!& I think the largest tip is... be consistent!
Lovely luck!
