Potty Training Age

Potty Training AgeHere are some of the many signs to look for that will tag your child with their potty training age. These signs include trying to imitate a parent when they go to the bathroom, when they can verbally communicate that they need something such as being hungry, and can understand simple requests such as putting their toys in a specific place. They will also start to pull their diapers off when they feel like they have wet or soiled their diapers. Children will also follow you to the bathroom out of curiosity to see what you are doing in there.

Other signs to look for when your child may be approaching their potty training age include investigating their body parts, looking into their diaper, starting to squat when they are going potty, grabbing their diapers after going potty, starting to cross their legs before they wet their diaper, starting to grunt or have a grimacing face when they are soiling their diaper, and when they find a corner or hidden place in order to do their business. Once you notice all or any of these signs, it does not mean that you should jump into the potty training process.

When your child has reached their potty training age, you still need to take the process slowly. Potty training needs to be done in a timely manner because it is a development phase of their life. Just as when they learn to eat, it takes them time to learn how to hold the fork or spoon. You, as a parent, also need to be ready. You need to choose a specific time during the day when you can train your child without having any distractions. It is important for you to remember that your mood will affect your child's mood. You want them to be comfortable yet excited about their training and the process will go much easier for you both.
